This July 15, the creation of the global initiative "Artificial Intelligence against Climate Change" and the collaboration with the government, academia, industry and civil society to carry it out, is announced.

There is no doubt that the global health crisis requires rethinking our current production models and our relationship with the environment. The right to have a healthy environment and to prevent future environmental and social crises becomes an imperative.

In this sense, the global initiative "Artificial Intelligence against Climate Change" seeks to promote climate stability, a more sustainable economy and a healthy population, taking advantage of the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool. This is an initiative with which Mexico can have leadership in the context of global economic recovery efforts after the coronavirus pandemic, since it will generate and strengthen value chains from the communities around the natural reserves, thus promoting that no one stay behind.

The first goal of this initiative is to protect natural reserves in Mexico and in the world, collaborating with local communities. The possibilities of AI to support us in conserving our natural resources, optimizing efforts to protect reserves and activating the economy of communities in and around them, often in a situation of distress, will be explored. poverty.

The initiative was founded by the Christopher Córdova agency, and the AI organization for social good, C Minds, and is developed with the support of the 2030 Agenda Directorate of the Headquarters of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, the Government de Yucatán, Huawei, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Tec de Monterrey, CONANP, and INAES, among other institutions and organizations.

In turn, the first international forum on "Artificial Intelligence against Climate Change" will be in the City of Mérida, Yucatán, on November 25 and 26, 2020. This will be developed in collaboration with the Government of Yucatán and will have the participation of international and local experts, uniting the fields of AI, conservation and climate change in the search for common solutions.

We must not forget that a healthy environment will help us to have a greater social resilience and that there are multiple links between health and climate change that should not be ignored in the economic recovery efforts that come.
